My Story
In September 2025, my life took a significant turn when I received an early-stage Alzheimer’s diagnosis from Duke Neurology. That phone call marked the beginning of a new chapter for me and my wonderful wife, Linda. We found ourselves making quick decisions to start my infusion treatments as soon as possible, which meant letting go of our plans to travel and enjoy our golden years together.
Suddenly, we faced not just the challenges of my diagnosis but also financial stress, forcing us to close our business in South Carolina. We relocated to Chapel Hill, North Carolina, so I could be closer to the incredible team at Duke Neurology.
During this time, we were deeply touched by the outpouring of support from friends, family, and even kind strangers. Their generous gifts made it possible for me to receive treatment at Duke, and I truly couldn’t have done it without them.
As a lifelong entrepreneur, I began to think about how I could continue to contribute, despite the challenges posed by Alzheimer’s. I also wanted to raise awareness about this condition that affects so many. Over the past six months, I’ve launched several initiatives: two Substack publications—My Alzheimer’s Journey and Greg's Alzheimer's Research Report—along with two online stores, Greg’s AZ Store and Greg’s Mini AZ Store.
I’ve also taken on a role as a paid speaker and presenter, sharing my experiences with living through an Alzheimer's diagnosis, navigating uncertainty, and discovering courage amid decline.
On the health front, my medical team at Duke recently had to stop my lecanemab infusions due to ongoing side effects. It’s been a frustrating journey; despite 18 infusions, I haven’t noticed any improvements in my cognitive or behavioral symptoms. Linda and I will be meeting with the medical team at the end of August to explore new treatment options.
While my Alzheimer’s progresses—affecting my short-term memory and making it hard to maintain a consistent body temperature, with trembling hands and ongoing battles with depression—I remain grateful for the support and friendship I receive from all of you.
Thank you for being part of this journey with me.
Greg
