"You learn how to take life one day at a time"
Greg Rowland
In August 2025, I was diagnosed with early-stage Alzheimer’s disease. From the moment I received the call from Duke Health, life changed dramatically. My wife, Linda, and I had to make many quick choices so my infusion treatments could begin as soon as possible.
Not only did our plans to travel and enjoy our golden years exploring vanish, but we suddenly faced severe financial stress. Our business in South Carolina had to be closed. We moved to Chapel Hill, North Carolina, so I could be near Duke Health.
I am no longer able to drive or work. With the loss of income from our business, and facing the mounting costs of specialized care at Duke Health, transportation to medical appointments, and the high cost of maintaining our South Carolina home and our apartment in Chapel Hill, our situation became rather dire. Additionally, there is the looming need for future caregiver support.
Many friends, family, and loving strangers stepped up and helped us with generous gifts. Without their support, I would not be a patient at Duke Health.
As a lifelong entrepreneur, I started thinking about how I could earn money within the restrictions of my Alzheimer’s disease. My other goal was to use my experience to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s.
During the past three months, several ventures were born:
Substack blog – My Alzheimer’s Journey
Online store – Greg’s AZ Store
Speaking Opportunities
We created these ventures to bridge the gap between our Social Security income and our living and medical expenses. At the same time, we have been aggressively selling our former business assets, our South Carolina home, and our vehicles.
With the support of many people, our financial situation is stabilizing. Yet, the high cost of living, local transportation, and treatment expenses not covered by insurance continue to climb. For that reason, I humbly ask for your support.
Every dollar makes a tremendous difference. Thank you for supporting Linda and me as we continue down this journey.
